Food delivery is never a new thing. Food delivery man even appears
on the famous Chinese painting, Along the River during the Qingming Festival,
which was painted almost a thousand years ago. Nowadays, food delivery becomes
very popular in cities. In China, food delivery is welcomed by the youth
generation. Some media says this phenomenon is caused by the issue of
single-child. Some people believe that many young people are their families'
single child, they were well cared by their parents during their youth, they do
not cook at home, so once they leave their parents, they need to rely on food
delivery for their meals.
However, I do not think this is caused by the lack of ability of cooking.
The ageing
population may result people become more specialised and contribute more time
to their work (this might be solved by the development of AI). When people
become more specialized, their other abilities including cooking (if they are
not cooks) will deteriorate over time because of lack of practice. Moreover,
because the labour population size shrinks because of the ageing population,
the average work that one labour needs to do increases, so they have less spare
time and do not have sufficient time to cook proper meals, then they would like
to rely on food delivery.
Therefore, I think
that the ageing population is one of the reasons that food delivery has become
so popular right now.
